Germanium (symbol Ge) is a chemical element, a metalloid with atomic number 32 on the periodic table.

Germanium has an atomic mass of 72.59. This element was discovered by Humans for the first time in Earth's European continent in the year 1886. This element was named for the location of its discovery, Germany. (ST reference: Star Fleet Medical Reference Manual)

Germanium was one of the materials present in the microbrain lifeform on Velara III. (TNG episode: "Home Soil")
