Gibraltar

For other uses, see Gibraltar (disambiguation).

Gibraltar is an area located on the southern-most tip of the Iberian Peninsula and shared a border with Spain.

In the mid-21st century, the Mediterranean Alliance constructed a massive hydroelectric dam across the Straits of Gibraltar which separated the Atlantic Ocean from the Mediterranean Sea, and lowered the depth of the Med by 60 meters. As well as generating electricity to supply Europe and northern Africa, new fertile farm-land had been freed up.

By the 2270s, Starfleet maintained one of its communications branches which was housed in the old hydroelectric complex. In 2273, Admiral James T. Kirk traveled to the area from Alexandria after receiving a senceiver alert detailing the passage of V'Ger to Earth. (TOS novelization: Star Trek: The Motion Picture)
