Golf is a sport that originated on Earth several hundred years ago. In golf, the object of the game is to hit a ball using a club from the teeing area into a small hole located in an area known as a green in as few strokes as possible.

The game remained popular well into the 23rd and 24th centuries. The Klingons once challenged the crew of USS Enterprise to a game, much to James T. Kirk's puzzlement. The Doctor took up the game as well during the voyage of the USS Voyager back to the Alpha Quadrant. The Doctor used the ship's holodecks to recreate a number of golf courses on Earth and on other planets. (VOY episodes: "Drive", "Inside Man")
