Golf is a sport that originated on Earth several hundred years ago. In golf, the object of the game is to hit a ball using a club from the teeing area into a small hole located in an area known as a green in as few strokes as possible.

The game remained popular well into the 23rd and 24th centuries. The Klingons once challenged the crew of USS Enterprise to a game, much to James T. Kirk's puzzlement. (TOS novel: How Much for Just the Planet?) Former Starfleet Captain Ferris Kane enjoyed playing golf after retiring from Starfleet. (TNG novelization: Relics)

The Doctor took up the game as well during the voyage of the USS Voyager back to the Alpha Quadrant. The Doctor used the ship's holodecks to recreate a number of golf courses on Earth and on other planets. (VOY episodes: "Drive", "Inside Man")
