Governor of Alpha Centauri

Memory Beta, the wiki for licensed Star Trek content.

The Governor of Alpha Centauri is the head of state and head of government of the Federation Member State of Alpha Centauri. The Governor's office is located in the capital city of New Samarkand.

In 2381, the Governor of Alpha Centauri was a Human male named George Barrile. The Governor coordinates the Alpha Centauri Police; that year, however, Governor Barrile had no comment on the riots that occurred in New Samarkan. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny)

The Governor of Alpha Centauri also possesses the legal right to schedule system-wide plebiscites for issues he or she believes to be of importance to the populace. In 2381, Governor Barrile scheduled a plebiscite on two issues: Secession from the Federation, and the re-ratification of the Articles of the Federation. The plebiscite went forward, with a four-to-one pro-Federation victory. (TNG novel: Losing the Peace)
