The Great Barrier Reef is a coral reef system located on Earth, composed of roughly 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands. The reef is located near Australia, is about 2,600 kilometers in length, and covers an area approximately 344,400 square kilometers. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of northeast Australia.
