A grenade was a type of small weapon which features a built in time-delay, so that they can be triggered and then launched at an opponent. Grenades vary according to payload, ranging from explosive devices which cause localised physical damage, to complex technological devices designed to stun or disable electrical equipment. (TNG video game: Away Team)

Grenades could be launched by hand, or using devices such as a grenade launcher or compound grenade launcher. (TOS episode: "Arena"; VOY video game: Elite Force)
