Grilled cheese

A grilled cheese is a type of sandwich food made with bread and cheese, served after being toasted.

In the 2260s, this item was available from the food synthesizer aboard the USS Enterprise.

This was ordered by Scotty while the Enterprise was under the siege of a "practical joker" energy being. Scotty ordered a grilled cheese with Swiss cheese on rye bread, but the corrected his order to include pumpernickel bread. The computer responded by giving him both sandwiches, and then pelting him with numerous other food items, including a grilled cheese sandwich made with odiferous Limburger cheese. Once, when Scotty was explaining a material consistency to Captain James Kirk, the computer overheard the term "sandwich" in the technical conversation regarding how materials were combined in a targeting decoy, and offered Scotty a grilled cheese with Canadian bacon. (TOS novel: How Much for Just the Planet?)

The joined Trill Curzon Dax enjoyed eating grilled cheese sandwiches. After the Dax symbiont was transferred to Jadzia, she decided to try some of the things he liked to do that weren't too dangerous or disgusting. This included ordering a grilled cheese sandwich, which she ordered while taking a break with Major Kira Nerys. Quark filled her order, but was unsure whether such an item was edible or not.
