Gulf of Mexico

The Enterprise (NX-01) over the Gulf of Mexico.

The Gulf of Mexico is the ninth largest body of water on Earth. An ocean basin, the Gulf of Mexico is bordered by the United States of America to the north, Mexico to the west and southwest, and the south by Cuba. The Gulf is connected to the Atlantic Ocean by the Florida straits between Florida and Cuba, and the Yucatan Channel between Mexico and Cuba.

A number of important settlements were created on the Gulf. This included the city of New Orleans, a major seaport on the Gulf since its creation in the early 18th century. Earth Starfleet officer Charles Tucker III was born and raised in Panama City, Florida, which is on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. (ENT episodes: "Fusion", "The Augments"; ENT novel: Last Full Measure)

In 2153, the Enterprise flew over the Gulf of Mexico while surveying the damage done by the Xindi prototype super weapon. (ENT episode: "The Expanse")

Some years prior to 2155, Tucker and Jonathan Archer went on a fishing junket in the Gulf of Mexico. Archer kept a photograph taken during this time. (ENT novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing)

Benjamin Sisko once took his father Joseph's boat out into the Gulf of Mexico. (DS9 short story: "Living on the Edge of Existence")

As a young woman, Sonya Gomez fell out of a rowboat into the Gulf of Mexico. Her life was saved by her sister, Belinda Gomez. (SCE eBook: Many Splendors)

In 2371, while trapped in the Delta Quadrant, the crew of the USS Voyager discovered a colony comprised of humans descended from people who were kidnapped from Earth in 1937. The Voyager crew was offered the opportunity to remain in the Delta Quadrant with these humans. For his part, Commander Chakotay wanted to decline the offer and continue on to Earth, having a desire to swim again in the Gulf of Mexico. (VOY episode: "The 37's")
