Augustus "Gus" Bradford was a Human man in Starfleet in the 24th century.

Biography[]

Early career[]

Bradford graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2323, along with classmate and close friend David Gold, and both were assigned to the USS Gettysburg. Bradford had been an admirer of Gettysburg captain Mark Jameson, and was particularly pleased to serve under him. (SCE eBook: No Surrender)

In 2328, Lieutenant Bradford was part of an assault team charged with taking an illegal Cardassian base on the moon of Delavi III. He and Gold, along with fellow officers Jolev, Mairin ni Bhroanin, and Rha-Teramaet encountered heavier resistance than expected, but still succeeded in capturing the base. The five forged a close bond during this mission, and celebrated by sampling the Cardassian commander's stock of Saurian brandy. (CoE eBook: Turn the Page) Bradford later moved on to new assignments, and eventually was promoted to Captain and given his own command. (SCE eBook: No Surrender)

Later life[]

In 2364, it was discovered that one of Mark Jameson's most celebrated accomplishments, his negotiation with Karnas of Mordan IV for the lives of 63 Federation citizens, had involved arming the warring factions of that world, in violation of the Prime Directive. (TNG episode: "Too Short a Season") Bradford felt personally betrayed by this revelation about his one-time commander. He resigned from Starfleet, left his wife, Anita, and left Federation space.

Sometime prior to 2376, Bradford was arrested by Kursican authorities for his role in leading the human colonists on planet Val'Jon in protests against the planets of the Kursican system joining the Federation. He was imprisoned aboard the Kursican Orbital Incarceration Platform, which had a reputation for its harsh prisoner conditions. In early 2376, Bradford and his fellow rebels sabotaged the "Plat", and managed to escape to Val'Jon along with a number of hostages, including his daughter Deborah and her son, Benjamin. David Gold, then captain of the USS da Vinci, was able to successfully negotiate the release of Bradford's family members, as well as Deltan Ambassador Uree, but Bradford himself was killed by Kurscian forces. (SCE eBook: No Surrender)

Personal[]

Bradford had served as Gold's best man at his wedding to Rachel Gilman. It was the first time he had ever set foot in a synagogue. Gold likewise was best man at Bradford's wedding to Anita, and was godfather to his daughter, Deborah. (SCE eBook: No Surrender)
