Lieutenant Heaton was a female Starfleet engineer. Soon after transferring to the USS Enterprise-E in 2379, she was part of the search and rescue team which beamed aboard the Klingon ship IKS Taj after it had been severely damaged by the nadion-pulse cannons of Tezwa.

Not long after this, she was part of the Bravo team sent to Tezwa's Solasook Peninsula under Lieutenant Commander Data. (TNG novel: A Time to Kill)

After Starfleet captured several contraband cargo shipments, Heaton was one of the engineers who cataloged the parts and discovered conversion equipment and instructions intended to implicate the Tholians in the construction of the nadion-pulse cannons. (TNG novel: A Time to Heal)
