Hiziki Gard was a joined male Trill. He was joined with the Gard symbiont around 2356, following the death of Verjyl Gard. Gard was a special agent with the Trill Symbiosis Commission and dealt with, amongst other things, the rare joined Trill who were so unstable as to become murderers. (DS9 - Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novel: Trill: Unjoined)

Biography[]

In 2376, Hiziki Gard was assigned as head of security for the Trill Ambassador Seljin Gandres during the planned induction of Bajor into the United Federation of Planets. At the signing ceremony on Deep Space 9's Promenade, Gard assassinated the Bajoran First Minister, Shakaar Edon, having determined that he was host to a bluegill parasite. He then went into hiding aboard the station using a Federation isolation suit, but was eventually tracked down by Lieutenant Ro Laren and Taran'atar. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Lesser Evil)

It was later revealed that the hosts of the Gard symbiont had long acted as a guardian against, among other things, the return of the parasite aliens. Gard eventually cooperated with the authorities and even briefly hosted a queen parasite alien during the investigation. The queen attempted to kill Gard in the joining but was removed before she could succeed. The new first minister Asarem Wadeen agreed to extradite Gard to the Trill authorities and after a mandatory trial he was expected to get a pardon by the Trill president. Gard was present at the signing ceremony for Bajor's admittance into the Federation. (DS9 novel: Unity)

Gard was present during the neo-Purist incited riots in early October 2376. He worked with Taulin Cyl, Ezri Dax and Julian Bashir during the crisis. (DS9 - Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novel: Trill: Unjoined)
