The Horne was a Flyer-class heavy shuttlecraft assigned to the USS Titan in 2381. The Horne was added to the Titan's shuttle complement following her return to Federation territory during the Borg Invasion of 2381 and in doing so became the starship's fastest shuttle.

Later that year Doctor Shenti Yisec Eres Ree, under the influence of his paternal instinct (which had been triggered via the telepathic distress of Deanna Troi who had sensed something was wrong with her husband, William T. Riker and feared for her own unborn child, combined with the grief of Tuvok who had recently lost his own son to the Borg), kidnapped the pregnant Troi and stole the Horne as he felt Troi and her baby would not be safe aboard the Titan. Upon boarding the Horne, Ree tore out the pilot's chair to make a more comfortable position for his non-humanoid form to control the ship from, he then used the ship's weapons systems to shot an opening in the Titan's shuttlebay permitting him to escape.

Ree, Troi and Nurse Alyssa Ogawa, who had insisted the doctor allow her to come along to keep an eye on Troi, spent several days in the shuttle before arriving at the planet Lumbu. Meanwhile the Titan sent the shuttlecraft Armstrong in pursuit; the Titan both too damaged and too busy with operations at the planet Droplet.

Ree set the Horne down in the nation-state of Lirht on Lumbu to take Troi to a native hospital facility, Hvov Memorial, which he felt would be the most appropriate place to continue her care - despite this being a violation of the Prime Directive, the Lumbuans being a pre-warp civilization. The team aboard the Armstrong arrived at the planet twenty-one hours later, by which time the hospital had been surrounded by local law enforcement personnel.

Before he left the Horne Ree set it up to generate a jamming field preventing the use of transporters; subsequently the Armstrong team was forced to land and make their way into the hospital on foot. Once the team found their way to Ree's position they were able to talk him out of his instinct driven mind set and have the jamming field deactivated to beam back to the Horne, though not before Troi gave birth in the hospital.

Days later the Horne and Armstrong arrived back in the Titan's shuttlebay where an anxious Riker eagerly waited to meet his new-born daughter. (TTN novel: Over a Torrent Sea)

The Horne was likely named after famed jazz singer Lena HorneWP.
