The House of Palkar was a Great House of the Klingon Empire, one which had served the empire with distinction since the days of Emperor Sompek. Its estates were located on the Qam-Chee River, opposite the First City.

The leaders of the House of Palkar were proud of their service to the empire, and by tradition at least one member of the House had always served in the Klingon Defense Force.

In 2165, the Head of the House of Palkar was Councillor Khorkal, a gray-bearded centenarian who ascended to the position of Chancellor of the High Council of the Klingon Empire after the death of Chancellor M'Rek. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Live by the Code)

During the Dominion War, all the adult members of the House, including Kurak, daughter of Haleka, fought in the conflict. However, Kurak was the only one to survive the hostilities, and she was forced by Moloj, the House ghIntaq, to remain in the service until her oldest nephew, Gevnar, reached the Age of Ascension.

In late 2376, Moloj died, and Kurak was given special dispensation to head the House. She chose Karreka, daughter of Lyyroq as her ghIntaq, perhaps the first female ever to hold such a position. Shortly after, Kurak mated with Leskit, thus joining the House of Palkar with the House of Graf. (TNG novel: Diplomatic Implausibility, KE novel: A Burning House)
