Howard "Studs" Carter was the alias taken by Lee Kelso while temporally displaced on Earth in 2045. Howard Carter was a technician working out of Hollywood, California, and a member of STEM Local 583, or the Stuntmen's, Technicians', Electricians' and Mediatricians' Union. This cover allowed him access to top-of-the-line electronics and media equipment needed to keep in communications with Captain Kirk and the rest of his stranded party. As Carter, Kelso took a job at MediaMagix in Hollywood, and then later, relocated to Ohio. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)
