Ian Trimarak Vellacora was a Starfleet man from Izar, an officer who served during the 23rd century.

Biography

Vellacora was an expert in leadership, starship weapons operation, damage control and security procedures, starship combat tactics, and unarmed combat. He spoke the Caitian language. Following a stint aboard the USS Constellation, in the 2250s Vellacora volunteered to serve aboard the Marklin-class USS Xenophon with Captain Kelvar Garth during the Four Years War and came to idolize his CO.

Vellacora was later awarded a Starfleet Citation for Conspicuous Gallantry for his efforts to rescue the crew of the disabled USS Republic in the Tycho system. He saw starship combat during the brief Federation-Klingon War of 2267, then served tours in starbase operations and as an instructor at Starfleet Academy. (FASA RPG module: Decision at Midnight)

Vellacora retired from Starfleet in 2268 with the rank of commander. He was reactivated on reference stardate 2/1612, with a promotion to captain and assigned to lead a diplomatic mission to the Gorn Hegemony.

After completing the diplomatic mission, Captain Vellacora was reassigned to Starbase 12 on stardate 2/1708, until construction was complete on the Loknar-class USS Arkadelphia. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update)

On stardate 2/1801, Vellacora took the Arkadelphia to the Asparax Confederation located within the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone. This action nearly initiated a war between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. (FASA RPG module: Decision at Midnight)

The stardates for this adventure all originate in the Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update. While generally consistent with a 2270s adventure, the game book refers to Kruge at some point, creating some confusion as to the accuracy of that date. However, it is not clear that Kruge's 2280s activities are referred to, making the date information a far more reliable chronology. The date of Commander Vellacora's first retirement is derived from his personnel record where it is stated he left his post in the year following events from the TOS series.

The Sourcebook revised a statement in Decision at Midnight that Vellacora retired after the Gorn mission.
