"Image in the Sand" is a Star Trek episode, the 151st episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the premiere episode of the show's seventh season. Benjamin Sisko experiences a vision which leads him to believe the Prophets can be contacted, the Romulans establish a presence on Deep Space 9 and Worf plans a mission in Jadzia's name.

Summary[]

Three months after Jadzia's death, much has changed. Benjamin Sisko has taken a leave of absence and returned to Earth and Kira Nerys is in command of the space station. The invasion of Cardassian territory has stalled and a grieving Worf is angry that the Defiant is only being assigned simple convoy duties.

Kira, recently promoted to colonel, is troubled by how many worshipers of the Pah-wraiths have appeared on the station. With the collapse of the Bajoran wormhole, some Bajorans believe that the Prophets have abandoned them. Kira has another matter to deal with, as Admiral William Ross announces that a Romulan contingent, led by a senator called Kimara Cretak, are to establish a presence on the station for the duration of the Dominion War.

In his father's restaurant in New Orleans, Sisko is playing the piano when his baseball falls off the piano. As he picks it up, he has a vision of a womans face in the sands of Tyree. Sisko resolves to find the woman. He creates a composite image of the woman, from which Jake recognises her from photographs that Sisko’s father has. When they ask Joseph, he angrily denies knowing the woman.

On DS9, Worf visits Vic’s lounge and when Vic sings “All the Way”, Worf begins destroying tables. Bashir recalls that “All the Way” was Jadzia’s favourite song.
