Imzadi (pronounced em-ZAH-dee) was a Betazoid word which closely translated into English as "beloved", and was frequently used as a term of endearment. (TNG episodes: "Encounter at Farpoint", "Haven", "Shades of Gray", "Violations", "Second Chances", "Thine Own Self", "Skin of Evil"; TNG movie & novelization: Star Trek: Nemesis) The endearment is used specifically for the first person with whom one has shared not only physical intimacy, but spiritual as well. (TNG novel: Imzadi)

When William T. Riker and Deanna Troi met each other for the first time for several years on the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D, Troi called him imzadi telepathically. (TNG episode: "Encounter at Farpoint")
