The Iraq War was a highly controversial conflict in the early 21st century fought by the United States, United Kingdom, and their allies in the nation of Iraq with the aim of removing Saddam Hussein and his administration from power. The war was launched in March of 2003, and within a few months the Iraqi government fell. A short time later United States President George W. Bush declared major combat operations to be over. Nonetheless, the conflict continued for years.
