The earliest Romulans gave the name Iruhe to an individual or group sentience of lifeforms in residence in the 4408 A/B Trianguli star system that were capable of using powerful broadcast telepathy to alter perceptions of passing travelers, in order to attract outsiders and feed on their neural energy. They were eventually dealt with by the Organians, in some unknown fashion. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: The Romulan Way)

It has been theorized that the Iruhe and the intellivore encountered in 2371 by the USS Enterprise-D are one and the same, or at the very least related. (TNG novel: Intellivore)
