The Ithenites,[1] also known as Dayen,[2] were a sapient species, a civilization of copper-colored diminutive humanoids[3] native to the planet Ithen[4] in the galaxy's Beta Quadrant.[2] (ENT episode: "Azati Prime", TOS episode: "Journey to Babel")
History and culture[]
Their homeworld was Ithen,[4] a class M planet also known as Orodanga[2] in the Eta Virginis[2] star system. (DTI novel: Forgotten History)
First contact between Ithenites and Humans had occurred at some point in or before 2154. In that year, the 31st century temporal agent Timot Danlen mentioned the Ithenites to the Human captain Jonathan Archer as future members of the United Federation of Planets. (ENT episode: "Azati Prime")
Ithenites fought in the Earth-Romulan War. (Stardate Magazine vol. 2, Issue 11: "The Dayen")
An Ithenite freighter crew was captured by Vertians in 2163. They were rescued from Gamam Vertis IV by Federation Starfleet. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: A Choice of Futures)
In 2267, the USS Enterprise ferried Federation delegates to a Babel Conference about the admission of Coridan Prime. Among the diplomats was a female[5] and two male[3] Ithenites. (TOS episode: "Journey to Babel", STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Return to Babel")
In 2270, Danga Sitru served as the Federation councillor from Ithen. (DTI novel: Forgotten History)
From 2409 onwards, Ithenite clothing, based on the 2267 delegate outfit, was sold commercially by the Lobi Crystal Consortium. (STO website: Season 12: Reckoning : The Undiscovered Lockbox!)
Alternates timelines[]
In an alternate timeline, the Ithenites were members of the Interstellar Coalition, and attended the conference on Babel to discuss Earth's admittance to that body in 2264. (ST - Myriad Universes novel: A Less Perfect Union)
Biology and culture[]
Ithenites on average were 3' 9" tall, 110 pounds, and lived to be 75 solar years old. Hair color variations included dark red, brown, and black. Plants, animals, and water on their homeworld were saturated with metals and metallic salts, giving Ithenite skin a metallic-bronze, lustrous shimmer, though it tended to wrinkle relatively early. Their physiology was particularly sensitive to alcohol, tobacco, and some types of hydrocarbon compounds, and aspirin was poisonous.
Most were monogamous, though members of its small Menuu sect observed polyamorous behaviors. (Stardate Magazine vol. 2, Issue 11: "The Dayen")
