During the "Breen Barrier" conflict between the Federation and the Breen Confederacy, due to the blockade instigated by the Breen Militia to prevent Starfleet from extraditing a Breen prisoner to the Romulan Star Empire, the JEM Bhert was part of the experimental fleet of T'varo-class derived spaceships specifically designed for this war. The Malem-class bird-of-prey attempted to block ships of Battle Group 1, Battle Group 2, Battle Group 3, and Battle Group 4 from tearing into the Breen heartland, and reaching Romulan space, in the Dyson Depth and Megastiroth systems.
