Janos, ensign aboard the USS Excalibur (NCC-26517-A) in 2376 and part of Zak Kebron's security force. (NF novel: Martyr)
He was a genetically altered Mugato. His file is classified due to his genetically altered nature caused by Doctor Bethom. (NF novel: Stone and Anvil)
Janos was temporarily transferred to the USS Trident (NCC-31347) in 2376 and had a short relationship with M'Ress. Shortly after he learned that M'Ress had been mentally assaulted by Gleau, that man was killed with all the evidence pointed at Janos. He was very determined in his saying that he was innocent and Zak Kebron's investigation started with him believing in this. At one time Janos changed character in a matter of seconds and could thereby escape from custody when the guards around him was overrun by him. He was tracked by M'Ress and could in a relative short time be arrested again. When he changed back into his normal character, he had no recollection of how he had acted. Only through a mind-meld with Ambassador Spock did he become aware of his crime. (NF novel: Stone and Anvil)
He was last seen on planet Neural, joining a tribe of wild Mugato having lost all abilities that made him unique, insofar as sentience goes. Whether or not his mixed DNA from multiple species is still prevalent, or whether his Mugato DNA has re-written the rest of his DNA (in a manner similar to a retrovirus) is unknown. Additionally, when Janos is "released", as it were, onto Neural he is involved is a scuffle with several Mugato from a tribe he subsequently joins after defeating at least two members with judo throws (clearly his muscle memory remains un-impaired) (NF novel: Stone and Anvil)
