In an alternate timeline, Jaris was a Soong-type android, one of the Children of Soong who dominated the Alpha Quadrant by the 44th century. He pursued his creator, Data, a thousand years backwards through time to prevent him from committing suicide. (TNG short story: "I Am Become Death")

Charles Macauley, who played Argelian Prefect Jaris (or "Jarvis"), from TOS episode: "Wolf in the Fold" was also an artificial intelligence known as Landru. Albeit Landru was a hologram, generated by a central brain computer, in TOS episode: "The Return of the Archons".
