"But it is one thing, I assure you, to devote your genius to rescuing your people; it is quite another thing to witness your life's work being employed to conquer and enslave others."
Eljor, 2267[src]

The Jatohr were a sentient mollusk species from the Jatohr universe. They first entered the Primary universe in 2240 AD via a transfer-field generator. (TOS - Legacies novel: Captain to Captain)

Biology[]

Each Jatohr had a white, chitinous carapace with colorful stripes, swirls, whorls, and other markings that were unique to each individual. Measuring approximately 6.5 feet in height, Jatohr had two metallic forelimb prosthesis and left a trail of slime in their wake. They had tentacles in place of sensory organs on their faces, and the tallest tentacles contained eyes at the end of the stalk. A triangle-shaped mouth nearly reached the bottom of their multiple chins. (TOS - Legacies novel: Captain to Captain)

Society[]

The Jatohr lived in large communities. In the Jatohr universe, they lived in a sweeping metropolis with smooth causeways and spiraled towers. They used aerial transport pods to travel and protected their city with patrolling sentry globes. Their buildings were devoid of sharp corners to accommodate their physiology. (TOS - Legacies novel: Best Defense)

Culture[]

Behavior[]

An impending catastrophe motivated the Jatohr to leave their universe, according to First Scientist Eljor. The Jatohr did not encounter any other sentient species in their universe, and were fearful when they discovered other intelligent species. Commander Woryan, the hawkish authoritarian leader of the Jatohr, capitalized on this fear to push the Jatohr into a violent and expansionist agenda. Eljor explained to Number One that its people were not predatory by nature, and that they respected life and valued peace.

Family[]

Number One observed that the Jatohr appeared to form family bonds, with a parent or guardian watching over younger, smaller Jatohr. The young Jatohr did not wear the artificial carapaces, nor did they attach the metallic prosthesis to their small vestigial arms. (TOS - Legacies novel: Captain to Captain)

History[]

The Jatohr entered the Primary universe in 2240 AD via a transfer-field generator invented by Eljor. The generator was located inside a tall, multi-level citadel, and the generator with the Jatohr inside appeared instantaneously on Usilde after Eljor initiated the transfer field.

They used their powerful transfer field technology as a weapon, and quickly subjugated the pre-industrial Usildar race indigenous to the planet. Led by Commander Woryan, the Jatohr forced the Usildar to raze forests, strip-mine mountains, and cultivate gray fungi in an attempt to terraform Usilde.

In 2249 AD, the USS Enterprise discovered the Jatohr citadel during a routine sensor sweep, and sent an away team to investigate the planet. Number One was the away team leader, but was captured by the Jatohr during the team's initial reconnaissance. Tensions escalated, and the other members of the away team were sent to the Jatohr universe via a transfer field. During negotiations with the Jatohr, Eljor expressed regret about its invention of the transfer-field generator, and conspired with Captain Robert April and Number One to successfully transfer all Jatohr back to the Jatohr universe. Eljor died during the confrontation with its brethren, which left no Jatohr in the Primary universe. (TOS - Legacies novel: Captain to Captain)

The Jatohr ended up being transferred back to the primary universe in 2268, due to the combined efforts of Ambassador Sarek, the USS Enterprise away team, and a modified sensor probe sent to the Jatohr universe by Spock. Woryan suffered psychic incapacitation during the transfer and Edolon became the Jatohr's new leader. Edolon committed its people to stop causing trouble, and Starfleet began the process of finding a planet more suited to the Jatohr. (TOS - Legacies novel: Purgatory's Key)
