Jimmy

Jimmy

Jimmy was a Human male who lived in Harlem, New York, during the 1950s. Jimmy was a petty criminal and friend of Benny Russell who, despite himself, was encouraged by Benny's story about a black captain of a futuristic space station.

When Russell's story Deep Space Nine was refused for publication in 1953, Jimmy derided him for wasting his time. Russell countered that Jimmy should be looking for ways to make something of himself instead of living the stereotype of a criminal that was commonplace amid the racism of the time.

Jimmy was ultimately killed by the New York City police officers Burt Ryan and Kevin Mulkahey during a criminal deal gone wrong. At the time of Jimmy's shooting, Russell tried to help him but was forcibly restrained by Ryan and Mulkahey, receiving a severe beating in the process. (DS9 episode: "Far Beyond the Stars")
