Sir John Burke was a male Human astronomer from London, England, in the 21st century. He served as the Chief Astronomer for the Royal Academy, and was teh first to chart the star of a world later known as Sherman's Planet. (TOS episode: "The Trouble with Tribbles")

Burke had at least one child, a daughter named Monica. In his later years, he walked with the assistance of a cane. During the rise of the Optimum Movement, he concealed a short range laser emitter in his cane, which he used in self-defense. (ST novel: Federation)

Ensign Pavel Chekov once mistakenly identified Burke as "Ivan Burkhoff", a Russian national. (TOS episode: "The Trouble with Tribbles")

An USS Enterprise shuttlecraft, John Burke, was named after him. (TOS novel: Prime Directive)
