John Masefield (June 1, 1878 - May 12, 1967) was a human poet and author who was native to England on the planet Earth.

John Masefield wrote the poem Sea-Fever which gives the quote "All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by." This quote was used by Captain James T. Kirk (TOS movie: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier) and Captain Jean-Luc Picard (TNG novel: The Forgotten War). In 2267, while Lieutenant Kevin Riley was looking up Irish poets on the computer a malfunction caused it to play Sea Fever. (TOS novel: Web of the Romulans)
