Jonathan T. Esteban, a Starfleet officer, was captain of the USS Grissom in 2285. A "by-the-book" commander, his vessel was assigned to survey the Genesis Planet, but he and his entire crew (except for Lieutenant junior grade Saavik and Dr. David Marcus) were killed by Commander Kruge. (TOS movie: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock)

In the early 24th century, a Decker-class starship was launched bearing his name, the USS Jonathan T. Esteban.
