Joshua Mulrone Grant was a 23rd century Starfleet officer and captain of the USS Galahad during its first contact with the people of Shiva Omicron IV around 2210. Captain Grant used his phasers to stun the Jerion armies during a massacre, leading to the extermination of the Jerions. Captain Grant was court-martialed for this act, and became famous stating that "the Human Directive is the real Prime Directive" at his court martial.
