The K'Kmarak-class was a Federation class VI research vessel starship in Starfleet service in the 23rd century, becoming active on reference stardate 2/2004. A mark III variation became active on stardate 2/2010.
The K'Kmarak was created in the 23rd century and crewed 120 officers and men. The mark III modification had an increased complement of 123. Additionally, the K'Kmarak could carry 5,500 metric tons of cargo, rated at 110 SCU (standard cargo units). The vessels weighed 75,000 metric tons, measured 180 meters in length, 68 meters in width and 35 meters in height. The K'Kmarak had 2 standard (6 person) personnel transporters and one 22-person escape transporter stages.
The K'Kmarak mark I warp engines were FWC-1 type, rated to cruise at warp factor 7 and max out at warp factor 9. The engine change of the K'Kmarak mark III modification affected the engine performance, limiting the vessels to cruise at warp 6. The K'Kmarak impulse engines were of the FIC type. The K'Kmarak had only 2 regulation necessitated two FH-3 single-emitter phaser banks, with port and starboard firing arcs. No ships were allowed to travel without these minimum weapons. The vessel a no launcher weapons and was defended by FSA model deflector shields.
By the later 23rd century, 8 mark I K'Kmarak vessels had been constructed, followed by 6 mark IIIs. The K'Kmarak was designed to fill the need for a research vessel in the areas of the Federation toward the outer rim of the galaxy. The K'Kmarak series of vessels was instrumental in mapping this great expanse of space and in establishing first contact with heretofore unknown races and cultures. All ships at this type have the most extensive laboratory facilities aboard any Starfleet ship. They are capable of performing the most intricate of planetary studies and have monitored and recorded several novae. It should be noted that all K'Kmarak class ships are crewed by Vulcans only and are named for Vulcan scientists in the tradition of the first vessel, named for K'Kmarak.
