Kai was a knight of the Order of Starfleet on a planet in the galaxy's Delta Quadrant.
Biography[]
In 2376, Kai was one of the guards tasked with guarding the Blind Tower from intruders. One day, he was assigned to patrol the forest toward the east. Weylyn spotted Kai and sliced his cudgel staff in two. The Doctor stopped Weylyn from killing Kai, explaining that he was a potential ally.
Kai's people had taken an oath to guard the tower five generations ago. Kai escorted Weylyn and The Doctor to the top of the tower, where The Doctor used a device to clear a path through the planet's ion storms, hail USS Voyager and request assistance. When an away team materialized, Kai and the other guards knelt and offered their allegiance to Captain Kathryn Janeway, asking that she give them a new purpose. She refused, as it would violate the Prime Directive, but The Doctor nonetheless knighted Weylyn as a lieutenant in the Order of Starfleet before he left.
Afterward, Kai joined Weylyn in his travels and eventually rose to the rank of commander. (VOY comic: "Avalon Rising")
