The Kal'Hyah was a Klingon ritual which was the path to clarity and can be considered the Klingon race's version of a 'bachelor party'. It is considered a mental and spiritual journey where the groom and his closest friends must participate in six trials over the couse of four days that consist of deprivation, blood, pain, sacrifice, anguish, and death. This was to be done while fasting and no food was allowed until it was completed. (DS9 episode: "You Are Cordially Invited"; ST reference: Star Trek: Celebrations)
In 2374, Worf asked Benjamin Sisko, Martok, Miles O'Brien, Julian Bashir and Alexander Rozhenko to undergo the Kal'Hyah in the days leading up to his wedding to Jadzia Dax. (DS9 episode: "You Are Cordially Invited")
In 2376, after windsurfing on the Columbia River with Ro Laren and hating it, Quark suggested that they "pull out Worf's old Road to Kal'Hyah program and really have a party". (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Cathedral)
