BajoranEmblem

Emblem of the Republic of Bajor

Kant Jorel was a male Bajoran in the 24th century.

Biography[]

During the Occupation of Bajor, Kant was a member of the Bajoran underground, creating illegal news broadcasts intended to undermine the Cardassian regime on Bajor. During one of his broadcasts, Kant and his associates revealed a discovered Cardassian plan to ambush a Resistance cell. This unfortunately alerted the Cardassians to a leak in their security, and prompted them to attack the cell unexpectedly. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

After the liberation of Bajor, Kant served as press liaison for the Bajoran First Minister. In early 2377, he was offered the position as Palais de la Concorde Press Liaison. For years to follow, Kant felt guilty for "betraying" First Minister Asarem Wadeen, which also made him uncomfortable dealing with her ex-husband and Federation Councillor from Bajor, Krim Aldos. (ST novels: A Time for War, A Time for Peace, Articles of the Federation)

During his first two and a half years, Kant went through seven assistants, none of whom lasted longer than two months. In September of 2379, a new assistant, Thanatazhres "Zhres" th'Vroth joined the office, and stayed on at least until late 2380. (ST novels: A Time for War, A Time for Peace, Articles of the Federation)

In 2380, Kant learned of the secret conspiracy by former president Min Zife, his chief of staff Koll Azernal, and his secretary of military intelligence Nelino Quafina, to illegally arm Tezwa, and the subsequent removal of Zife from power by Admiral William Ross. Kant passed this information from Trill reporter Ozla Graniv to President Nanietta Bacco's chief of staff, Esperanza Piñiero. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

In 2381, the Borg Collective began an invasion of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Although most of the Federation government was evacuated from Earth, Kant remained with other select members of the cabinet. When the Borg reached the Sol system, Bacco and her cabinet, including Kant, gathered in the Monet Room where they expected to witness their destruction. However, thanks to a plan enacted by several Starfleet vessels - the USS Enterprise, USS Aventine, and USS Titan - and a race known as the Caeliar, the invasion was halted and the Borg Collective destroyed forever. Due to this, former Borg drone Seven of Nine collapsed in the Monet Room; Kant wondered if they should take her pulse while waiting for a doctor. In the aftermath, President Bacco addressed the Federation with Kant and Piñiero by her side; after coming off stage, Kant and Piñiero pushed back reporters and refused to comment or answer questions. Once they were in a secure turbolift, Kant commented that the speech went well, to which Bacco responded that she knew because she had been present. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)

Later that year, Kant introduced President Bacco at the press conference announcing the formation of the Typhon Pact. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny)
