"We are happy to leave this corrupt Empire if we must. But far more would we prefer to take it back, and some day replant all this under the open sky where it belongs." - Thala tr'Kaveth
Kaveth was an enormous starship built secretly during the 23rd century by the Romulan Ship-Clan of the same name, as a refuge for Romulans fleeing the rule of the Romulan Star Empire. She later played an essential role in the Romulan Civil War. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: The Empty Chair)
When war became inevitable, Kaveth called at the colony of Kavethti, populated by Clan Kaveth members, and the entire population of the colony boarded the ship, with their possessions, furniture and even the more movable industrial equipment, and left to join the fight. Alarmed senators estimated that there could be "tens of thousands" of them able to join any ground assault. In fact, this was probably an underestimate; out of their total populations, Tyrava and Kaveth offered to provide 280,000 troops to the attack on the Two Worlds.
The most striking feature of Kaveth was a small forest growing on board the ship, including tafa trees, flowering firjill, and other plants the Kaveth clan had smuggled from their original home in the south-tropical continent of ch'Havran.
One of these Havran plants had provided a large part of the funding for the construction of Kaveth. Tivish was the source of a silk-like fibre, fabulously difficult to process, and thus fabulously expensive. When they were expelled from ch'Havran, the Kavethssu managed to sneak out a number of tivish plants. Over the next five decades, they exported high-quality hydroponically grown tivish fibre all over the Empire. The shipments were passed off as from ch'Havran, to keep up the pretence that their colonies had no valuable assets and so avoid unwanted Imperial attention. The Kavethssu deliberately continued to live in semi-poverty, while spending the entire profits of this secret industry on building their ships. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: The Empty Chair)
