A Klingon cruiser is a type of cruiser starship operated by the Klingon Empire and the Klingon Defense Force.
History and specifications[]
Over the course of history, Klingons have had many different types of cruiser vessels of various designs.
Klingon cruisers were ships of the line with performance levels slightly below that of full-fledged battlecruisers, but hull designs such as the D7-class could be outfitted as either cruisers or battlecruisers.
An early 23rd century bird-of-prey design, the Z'gavva-class, was classified as a cruiser. (FASA RPG module: Klingon Ship Recognition Manual)

Theta 116 survey[]
In the year 2365, a Klingon cruiser passed the Theta 116 star system and performed a sensor sweep. The Klingons detected spacecraft debris in orbit of Theta VII, and notified the Federation of the discovery, moving on in their course without further investigation. (TNG episode: "The Royale")
- The cruiser went unnamed and had no further description in the script or episode. At the time the episode was produced, only the D7-class and the Klingon bird-of-prey had been seen onscreen in canon, and both had been shown in previous TNG episodes as the K't'inga-class D7 seen in TNG episode: "Heart of Glory" and the K'Vort-class bird-of-prey seen in TNG episode: "A Matter of Honor". In the expanded scope of non-canon licensed works, there were dozens of additional Klingon cruiser classes in service in the 2360s decade, most (if not all) originating from the FASA RPG.
