Lactra is a star with an associated star system comprised of nine planets and eight moons. It is the home system of the Lactran race and their homeworld of Lactra VII. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)

Location and specifics[]

Quadrant 3S closeup

The system was located in the vicinity of Epsilon Scorpii. (TAS - Log Eight novelization: The Eye of the Beholder) That was a real-world star located in the Scorpius constellation of the Beta Quadrant. (ST reference: Star Charts)

On two star charts, it was shown proximate to the Talos star group, the Daran system and Memory Alpha in treaty boundary quadrant 3 South. Another chart denoted it as being in the general vicinity of Delta Theta and space buoys for the First Federation. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps)

Lactra was either a G4 yellow star or a red giant.

James T. Kirk called it a G4 star in his captain's log in the novelization. ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation listed it as a red giant. ST reference: Star Trek Maps listed it as spectral class R/N/S. Yellow and red orbs were both visible in the Lactra VII sky in TAS episode: "The Eye of the Beholder".

History[]

In 2269, the SS Ariel (survey ship/scout) was assigned to survey Lactra, but Starfleet lost contact with the crew. Six weeks later the USS Enterprise entered the system and located Ariel abandoned in orbit of Lactra VII. (TAS episode & Log Eight novelization: The Eye of the Beholder)

Three Lactrans traveled aboard the Enterprise on a quest to capture a jawanda for the Lactra VII zoo. When the starship returned two to three months later, it was accompanied by six moonsDrasid, Lethiq, Lathoq, Mett One, Mett Two and Oj from the planet Boqu II in the Boquian system. The moons followed behind the starship by way of ancient gravitic engines that not only propelled the satellites as fast as warp three, but also had ensnared one of the cosmozoan jawandas. After safely depositing the lifeform in polar orbit of Lactra VII, the Enterprise and the moons returned to Boqu II. (TAS - Log Eight novelization: The Eye of the Beholder)
