Lanitow Irizal was a male native of the planet Altair VI who served as director of the Federation's Bureau of Interplanetary Affairs in the 2290s decade. As a native of that world, he physically differed from Humans by having six digits on each hand. Short in stature, he had a deep, resonant voice.

In the year 2293, Irizal, on the advice of Federation President Ra-ghoratreii, arranged a meeting with Captain Spock in his office on Rigel IV, in the hopes of getting Spock to become a Federation ambassador-at-large. After showing Spock the sort of scenarios he would deal with as an ambassador, he finally accepted. (TOS - Crucible novel: The Fire and the Rose)
