Laporin was a Benzite Starfleet captain. He attended Starfleet Academy with Benjamin Sisko.
In 2373, during the Klingon War, Laporin’s ship was boarded by the Klingons. Laporin’s Tellarite helmsman was beheaded by Wo'Din, who proceeded to rip off Laporin’s breathing tubes and cut his throat. When Captain Sisko heard Wo'Din telling the story in the Hall of Warriors, Sisko punched Wo'Din. Sisko was undercover and disguised as a Klingon at the time, so his action was seen by the other Klingons as stopping Wo’Din from bragging and getting in the way of drinking more bloodwine.
