Laurence Olivier (22 May 1907 - 11 July 1989) was a British actor who lived during the 20th century. He was well known for his performances in adaptions of Shakespearean plays.

After performing Act IV, Scene I of Henry V on the USS Enterprise-D's holodeck in 2366, Lt. Commander Data told Captain Jean-Luc Picard that he planned to study the performances of Olivier, Kenneth Branagh, Shapiro and Kullnark as Henry V in further his understanding of both the character and the play. However, Picard advised against it, claiming that he should discover Shakespeare through his own performance rather than by imitating others. (TNG episode: "The Defector")
