Lenara Kahn is a Trill woman, an intelligent and prominent scientist, and the current host of the Kahn symbiont. She worked for the Trill Science Ministry as did her brother, Bejal Otner.

Biography[]

In 2372, Lenara came to Deep Space 9 to conduct field tests on creating artificial wormholes. There she met Jadzia Dax, whose past host Torias Dax was married to Lenara's past host Nilani Kahn. The two Trill women began Torias and Nilani's relationship again, risking being discovered and being exiled from Trill society for breaking the reassociation taboo, which would lead to the eventual death of the Dax and Kahn symbionts. Lenara later decided to not pursue the relationship. (DS9 episode: "Rejoined")

The following year, Lenara's plan to seal the Bajoran wormhole and stop the Dominion invading was put into action, although sabotage from a Founder posing as Julian Bashir scuppered the effort. (DS9 episode: "In Purgatory's Shadow")

Lenara's work on artificial wormholes later inspired Dr. Lem Faal, a Betazoid scientist, to find a way to breach the galactic barrier. (TNG novels: Q-Space, Q-Strike)

In 2374, Data mentioned Kahn and her team's work on artificial wormholes. (TNG - The Dominion War novel: Behind Enemy Lines)

In 2376, Ezri Dax commented to Taulin Cyl that she did not regret what happened with Lenara. (DS9 - Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novel: Trill: Unjoined)
