Leon Trotsky (November 7, 1879 – August 21, 1940) was a human who lived on Earth during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Born in the Ukraine, Trotsky was a leader in the Russian revolution that brought about the creation of the Soviet Union. After losing a power struggle with Joseph Stalin, Trotsky was forced into exile, and was assassinated in Mexico in 1940. His supporters in the Soviet government, known as Trotskyists were purged by Stalin. (Historical accounts)

In the 21st century, Trotsky's political idealogy led to the establishment of the Neo-Trotskyism, which would come to control France by the 2020s. (DS9 episode: "Past Tense")

In the 23rd century, on the planet Lorina, Pavel Chekov led a security team from the USS Enterprise assisting the planet's security forces in hunting down terrorists. The methods of Minister Tsari led Chekov to remark that Tsari would next have the Enterprise personnel hunting for Trotskyists. (TOS novel: Ex Machina)
