The linguacode translation matrix was an innovative translation technology created by famed Starfleet officer Hoshi Sato in her late thirties. The device has been in use aboard all Starfleet starships since its creation in the 22nd century. In the 23rd century, both Starfleet and the rest of the Federation hailed newcoming aliens with "linguacode friendship messages" in every possible frequency and bandwidth.
