Livingstone was a 23rd century Human male. By the late 2250s, Livingstone served in Starfleet as an operations division crewperson, assigned as an engineer aboard the USS Constitution, working under Lieutenant Anita Jankowski.

Following Jankowski's death in 2257, Livingstone served as the representative for engineering during Lieutenant James T. Kirk's conference in the briefing room regarding the situation with the N'shaii in orbit of Sordinia IV. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Constitution)
