M'Nirl was a 23rd century Caitian man. M'Nirl was a career Starfleet officer, and by the 2280s he had achieved officer rank as an ensign and served as transporter chief aboard the USS Niwen. M'Nirl was trained as an engineer, with high marks for his skills at transporter operations and technology, as well as sensors. Besides these skills, M'Nirl was also knowledgeable in environmental suit/zero gravity operations.

An easygoing and friendly member of the Niwen crew, M'Nirl will sometimes jokingly warn those being transported that he has concern about getting his tail caught in the control levers. (FASA RPG module: Where Has All the Glory Gone?)
