M'Rek
M'Rek was a male Klingon who held the position of Chancellor of the High Council of the Klingon Empire in the 22nd century.
Biography
Edit
M'Rek was in power as early as 2151 where he witnessed Starfleet Captain Jonathan Archer return the courier Klaang to the Klingon homeworld (ENT episode: "Broken Bow", ENT novel: Kobayashi Maru).
In 2154, on a mission to prevent the destruction of a Klingon colony by a group of rogue Human Augments, Archer impersonated a servant of M'Rek's, claiming he was transporting the chancellor back to Qo'noS after negotiations with the Orions, in order to avoid a Klingon border patrol. At the time, M'Rek was rumored to have a thing for Orion women (ENT episode: "The Augments").
By 2155, M'Rek's position within the Klingon Empire was threatened by rivals on the High Council due to the capture of Klingon battlecruisers by the Romulan Star Empire through remote control technology. When captured Klingon ships attacked the planet Draylax, the Coalition of Planets sent Captain Archer to the Chancellor to get an explanation of the seemingly Klingon ordered attack. However, M'Rek told him that he would only get an answer by challenging Admiral Krell to a duel. The Human won the duel, and M'Rek compelled the Admiral to tell Archer the truth of the Draylax situation. (ENT novel: Kobayashi Maru)
Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
In 2156, M'Rek was still in power when Archer returned yet again, in order to request the Empire's assistance in the Earth-Romulan War. The Council and M'Rek returned quickly and denied Archer's request. (ENT novels: Beneath the Raptor's Wing, To Brave the Storm)
