Madagascar was an island nation on planet Earth, located off the east coast of Africa.

When the USS Enterprise-E suffered widespread systems failures during a test flight around Luna, the ship was on trajectory to crash off the coast of Madagascar. The USS Korolev was able to tractor the Enterprise safely into Earth orbit. (TNG short story: "On the Spot")
