Mali was a nation-state in the northwestern part of Africa on Earth. In 2045, the CSS Delphinus was found anchored off the coast of Mali following its disappearance from the Byrd Research Complex in Antarctica. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)

Curiously, Mali is a landlocked nation, perhaps suggesting a shift in the borders sometime prior to 2045.
