The Maori were an ethnic group of Humans native to the New Zealand region on Earth. The Maori were an ancient tribal culture, renown as warriors and often distinguishable by their ornate facial tattoos called Mokos, which symbolized an individuals character and identity.

Christopher Brynner had a tattoo of a Maori tribal pattern on his arm when he was in high school and in the United States Army. (DS9 episode: "Past Tense, Part I", ST short story: "The Immortality Blues")

In the 23rd century, the Museum of the South Pacific held many artifacts of ancient Maori culture in its collections. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)

The Speaker of the Council in 2269 was a male of Maori descent. (TOS novel: Prime Directive)
