Marcus Bertrand was a 24th century Human man, a Starfleet officer who held the rank of captain and held the position of commanding officer of the USS Potemkin.

Biography[]

He was a friend of Commander William T. Riker. They played jazz together at Sisko's Creole Kitchen at some point between 2366 and 2368. It was a fond memory for Riker, who kept a photo from that evening. (TNG - Assimilation² comic: "Issue 8")

The Starfleet uniform Bertrand wore that day was in use from 2366-2373.

When the Potemkin was captured during the Borg / Cyberman invasion of Delta IV in 2368, he was assimilated into the Borg Collective, and shortly thereafter assumed the designation of the Conduit. (TNG - Assimilation² comic: "Issue 6")

After the Borg destroyed the Cybermen, all evidence of their presence the prime universe was erased from history, including the Delta IV invasion and Bertrand's assimilation. (TNG - Assimilation² comic: "Issue 8")

While the crew of the USS Enterprise-D retained memories of the incursion, that may have been due to the presence of The Doctor aboard the starship. It was unspecified whether Bertrand himself would recall having been assimilated in the alternate timeline.
